The producers of Terminator: Genisys know what keeps audiences coming back for more: tying the timestream in Gordian knots, and more Terminators. It wouldn’t be enough for Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) to flee just the new T-1000 (the one that can turn into molten level and shift its appendages into weapons) and the CGI young-Arnold T-800. No—the newest Terminator must be the person they least expect. It must be… John Connor?!
Yep, the new Terminator: Genisys trailer changes the game once again. In addition to Sarah Connor doing a better job of being Kyle Reese than he does, and the reprogrammed T-800 a.k.a. “Pops,” we also see that some past/future/who knows version of John Connor (Jason Clarke) is actually a human-machine hybrid. It’s certainly the next logical type of Terminator to introduce, and it hits harder with it being undisputed leader of the revolution John Connor.
You have to wonder why the producers have decided to dole out each of these mini-twists in the trailers, and what (if anything) they’re saving for the movie itself. We still don’t know much about Matt Smith’s character, who’s listed on IMDb as Tim. Unless… is he really playing the older version of this mullet-sporting troublemaker from Terminator 2: Judgment Day?
That might be the final surprise in store. Watch the trailer:
Terminator: Genisys comes to theaters July 1.
Yeah, this seems like it would have been a fantastic HOLY @@@@@#$% twist if they had saved it for the film. Still looks like a lot of fun, though.
Matt Smith’s character is Skynet. I thought everyone knew this.
This franchise might be getting a little out of hand.
why tell us this before the movie opens? it’s certainly an innovation over the original plot.
@@.-@, Because if they didn’t no one would see it?
@2 Sigh.
Well, I didn’t know yet…
@5: I was also wondering if the reveal of this plotline was to make it seem more interesting.
@6, That is one of many wild ass guesses I’ve seen online, but it was the most ridiculous, and going with what else we know about this movie, that seems like Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.
Smokey and the Terminator 2: Smokey is the Terminator?
Love the article title but I wonder how many will get the reference?
@2 I don’t know if that’s a joke or a spoiler, but I was going to joke that the IMDB listing for ‘Tim’ is actually a typo and he’s playing ‘Time.’ Because the timestream itself is so involved at this point in the series that they’ve cast an actor to play it (and need to get a past Doctor actor to do so, give how very very convoluted indeed it is)…
Did you have to put the spoiler in the picture and in the teaser text on the front page? I would have preferred to avoid that spoiler by not clicking through to the whole article, but you gave me no choice.
You probably work for Skynet.
*sigh*
